Photographer Jason Dewey and I arrived at Casa Tua in Aspen first thing in the morning. We had a number of items on the shoot list and we needed to work around the lunch and dinner rush
Casa Tua had only opened a few months earlier, but they had already established themselves as the place to be, especially if you are a fan of Northern Italian cuisine. Chef Andreas Neufeld hails from Germany but was trained in the Classic Italian Kitchen. We took a few shots in his pristine kitchen before setting up in the dining room while Andreas got to work.
If you read any “behind the scenes” tales of food photography, frankly, the food that’s photographed is not edible. This was not the case at Casa Tua. Andreas brought us dish after dish straight from the kitchen. Jason and I got the shot, and then Andreas handed us a fork. Long story short, we ate everything we shot that day! And it was a long day. The final shots included restaurant guests that evening. We sat at the bar while we waited for our opportunity to shoot. Chef Andreas brought us out a little extra treat: Sliders with truffle aioli. It’s times like these that I truly love my job!
